Poster #2: Mike Tyson

“I’m scared and scarred.”

Poster #2: Mike Tyson

Reflecting on this post I thought I wouldn’t have anything to say; but as the last words above left it’s mark on my paperless journal I was writing in, I realized just how scared and scarred I am.

See, I relate to Mike a lot.  A broken man with a broken past.  Broken decisions.  Broken relationships.  Broken family.  Broken life.  I may not have the world championship belts or massive knock outs in the ring.  I may not fly pigeons or have a TV show for that matter.  But just like Mike, I have challenges and problems, victories and defeats.

The more I see this world for what it truly is — a broken world in need of radical grace and forgiveness — the more I transform into the human being I’m designed to be.  The world is broken, no matter how you look at it, it needs real humans – doing real things – for real people.

We’ve become a world full of hoarders.  Hoarders of information.  Hoarders of money.  Hoarders of cars, houses, planes, and people.  And when you have it all and you’re at the ‘top’ you realize exactly what Mike and his friends realize (taken from Mike Tyson’s Twitter profile):

“You may win the rat race but you’re still a rat.” -Mike Tyson
“Life is so humbling.” -Mike Tyson
“Wealth, luxury, & ease can make people feel confident, satisfied, & complacent but no matter how much you possess you have nothing w/out God.” -Reggie Bush

So what’s the point?

The point is we’ve turned our back on the broken, the ‘graceless’, the sinners and haters of the world.  We’ve turned our backs on the domestic abusers, the alcoholics and drug users, the suiciders, and those ‘too far’ to love.  We’ve turned the other cheek towards the wrong direction.  We’ve become judges infatuated with status.  We’ve lost touch with humanity.  We’ve lost touch with the human connection.  We’ve lost touch with the people that love us.

I’ve learned a lot from Iron Mike Tyson.  I’ve learned to forgive the unforgiven.   I’ve learned to give, grow, share, and enjoy love to and from the so called ‘monsters and demons’ in our lives.  I’ve learned and relearned to stay humble.

We all can learn to know real radical Uncensored Truth and Uncensored Grace.

And if you truly want to live a rich life; then remember it’s not about the money, the cars, or status.  That richness can only come from people and their stories.  My challenge to you is to look after the broken.  And to love others through ‘acts of love’ instead of words.

“Why is my soul so restless?  My spirit wants more.  …I’m scared and scarred.  But grace told me to drop it and move on.” -Ronald Arceo

No one is beyond love. No matter how crazy the crime, no matter how ‘horrible’ the person is made out to be …people are still people. And we’re not immune to human emotion.
